CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati freshman Jack Dingle (Louisville, Kentucky/St. Xavier) is one of nominees for the USA Today National Football Player of the Year Award on defense.
Dingle, a linebacker who enrolled at UC in June, was the defensive player of the year honoree in Kentucky. The USA TODAY High School Sports Award, presented by U.S. Polo Assn., are in their first year. The award winners in 27 sports will be announced on August 5.
He was also a member of Trinity's 2019 and 2020 Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Championship squad and earned Associated Press and Louisville Courier-Journal Kentucky High School First-Team All-State honors. Dingle rated as the No. 6 player among the state's 2020 recruits and was also tabbed with Kentucky Sports Radio All-State honors and was a Greater Louisville Football Coaches Association Class 6A, First-Team All-District Five selection.
Dingle is the third member of his family to play at UC – father Nate was a standout defensive lineman for UC from 1990-93, a captain as a senior in 1993 who played in the NFL and brother Jacob is a current safety.
Cincinnati opens the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4, against Miami (OH) in the 125th Battle for the Victory Bell at 3:30 p.m. ET inside Nippert Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and fans are encouraged to sign up for the digital platform online.
