CINCINNATI -- Former University of Cincinnati women's soccer standout Vanessa Gilles started in her Olympic debut Tuesday as Canada tied Great Britain, 1-1, in its third and final Group E contest.

Both teams advanced to the quarterfinals. Canada's match will be Friday at 4 a.m. ET against Brazil on NBC Sports Network. Should it advance in that first knockout round, it will face either the United States or Netherlands on Monday. Full coverage of the Games is available on NBCOlympics.com.

Canada claimed the bronze medal in 2012 and 2016.

Gilles is joined in Tokyo by fellow Bearcats alumni Jordan Thompson (USA, volleyball) and Annette Echikunwoke (Nigeria, track and field).
