Thompson Scores Team-High 18 Points in Win Over Turkey

CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati volleyball standout Jordan Thompson led the U.S. Women's National Team with 18 points in a gritty 3-2 (25-19, 25-20, 17-25, 20-25, 15-12) win over Turkey at Ariake Arena in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on Thursday.

CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati volleyball standout Jordan Thompson led the U.S. Women's National Team with 18 points in a gritty 3-2 (25-19, 25-20, 17-25, 20-25, 15-12) win over Turkey at Ariake Arena in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on Thursday.

Thompson is off to a strong start in her first three Olympic matches. She broke an American record and tied for third on the Olympic scoring record list with her 34 points in the 3-0 win over China. She was also the team's leading scorer in its first Olympic match against Argentina with 20 points on 18 kills. 

Thompson has been a member of the U.S. Women's National Team since 2019 and was recently with Team USA for a win in the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League in Rimini, Italy.
 
She started her professional career in Turkey in 2020 after a stellar career at UC where she was the AVCA Player of the Year and First Team All-American in 2019. Thompson set Cincinnati's school record with 827 kills during 2018 season and her 6.27 kills per set broke the NCAA record.
 
Thompson set the NCAA rally-scoring record with 50 kills Nov. 3, 2019 vs. Connecticut. She also represented the U.S. on the Women's Collegiate National Team in 2016 and 2017.

Thompson and the U.S. squad will be back in action on tomorrow night when they face Russia at 10:05 p.m. ET. The match is slated to air on NBC Sports Network and stream through the Peacock App. Check NBCOlympics.com for a complete TV schedule.
