CINCINNATI - 2021 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist and former Bearcats volleyball standout Jordan Thompson will be in attendance and recognized at the exhibition match against the University of Pittsburgh Saturday, August 21st.
Thompson returns to the Queen City following USA Volleybal'ls historic run in the Tokyo Olympic Games, earning their first gold medal in USAV history. The return also has significance as she was a member of the Bearcats 2019 team that defeated Pitt 3-2 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to move on to the team's first ever Sweet Sixteen appearance.
During the exhibition match, Thompson will be honored for her Olympic success as well as her impact on the Bearcats volleyball team. The exhibition game is slated for 1 p.m. ET in Fifth Third Arena and will be open to the public as part of Experience UC. The game will also be streamed on ESPN+.
Events surrounding her return will be announced later. She is also scheduled to be the honorary captain for Bearcats at the Ballpark that evening. More information on BABP can be found here.

Thompson has been a member of the U.S. Women's National Team since 2019, earning one Olympic gold medal and also taking first place in the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.
Thompson was off to a strong start in her first three Olympic matches before suffering an ankle injury that sidelined her for the final four matches of games. She led the U.S. Women's National Team with 18 points in their 3-2 win over Turkey. She broke an American record and tied for third on the Olympic scoring record list with her 34 points in the 3-0 win over China. She was also the team's leading scorer in its first Olympic match against Argentina with 20 points on 18 kills.
She started her professional career in Turkey in 2020 after a stellar career at UC where she was the AVCA Player of the Year and First Team All-American in 2019. Thompson set Cincinnati's school record with 827 kills during 2018 season and her 6.27 kills per set broke the NCAA record.
Thompson set the NCAA rally-scoring record with 50 kills Nov. 3, 2019 vs. Connecticut. She also represented the U.S. on the Women's Collegiate National Team in 2016 and 2017.
