CINCINNATI - It was a party in Fifth Third Arena as the University of Cincinnati volleyball team celebrated Olympic gold medalist Jordan Thompson while hosting Pittsburgh for a Saturday afternoon exhibition game.
The Bearcats' finished the four set match strong with many members of the team seeing action on the court.
"I think just an awesome... that's exactly what you need an exhibition for. I think Pitt is no question going to be a top team in the country all season long," Coach Alvey said following the match. "And I think we did some really wonderful things for being the first match-up. And you know, that is a very seasoned group - they are a very senior heavy team with a lot of experience. It's pretty much the same team we played three years ago in 2019. So I am proud of us and just really happy for the future."
The biggest moment of the afternoon was the celebration surrounding Jordan Thompson as the volleyball team recognized her for Bearcats' and Olympic accomplishments.
The Bearcats' regular season gets underway next weekend with the Dayton Tournament against the Flyers (Aug. 27 - 12:30 p.m.), vs. Texas State (Aug. 27 - 7 p.m.) and vs. Kentucky (Aug. 28 - noon).
