CINCINNATI -- The Bearcats soccer team dominated on the offensive end, but a few too many close calls were enough for Toledo to leave town with a 1-1 tie on a steamy Sunday afternoon. UC moved to 1-0-1, with Toledo going to 0-0-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Toledo struck first in the 50th minute as Ashton Cassel snuck through defenders for a left-footed strike across the top-right corner. The Rockets had held possession for much of those preceding minutes in the half.
Chloe Spitler put the Bearcats back in position with a point-blank header from the left corner to the top-right off Karli Royer's corner kick in the 64th minute. She and Vanessa DiNardo each had two shots on goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Cincinnati had an 18-5 shots advantage, the highest margin since March 7 against Tulsa (16-3), which was a 3-0 road win. Seven shots were in the first half and nine in the second. Both teams combined for just one in the second overtime. The Bearcats also had five corner kicks, all in regulation, to the Rockets' three.
NOTABLE
- UC was also 2-0-0 against the Rockets prior to today, and it was the first meeting since 2003.
- Cincinnati is now 4-0-3 against Ohio teams since the start of the 2014 season.
- Spitler's goal was the second of her career, with her first coming against Memphis in the AAC Semifinals this spring.
- Brandi Thomsen earned her first start of the season as well.
- Royer and Ashley Barron each played the full 110 minutes, a continuance of their stellar play from Thursday's season opener.
UP NEXT
The Bearcats will travel to crosstown rival Xavier for a 7 p.m. Thursday match.

Tons of pressure on the offensive side, plus some nice defense in today's draw.
