Volleyball Heads to South Bend for the Notre Dame Tournament

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati volleyball team hits the road for a three-game tournament in South Bend, Ind. hosted by Notre Dame in the Purcell Pavilion at The Joyce Arena September 3-5th, 2021.

The Bearcats are coming off a 1-2 weekend against three NCAA-tournament teams. They lost to Dayton 3-2 Friday afternoon and then turned around and beat Texas State 3-1 Friday evening. Saturday afternoon they lost to #3 Kentucky 3-0.

NOTES FROM THIS PAST WEEKEND

• Freshman Abby Walker was named to the All-Tournament team after her weekend performance. She recorded 14 kills against Dayton and 17 kills against Texas State, finishing the weekend with 32 total kills.
• In her first appearance as a Bearcat, Abby Walker finished with 11 kills on 27 attempts in the game against Dayton.
• Senior Maria Mallon completed two double-doubles on Friday in back-to-back games, finishing the weekend with 24 kills and 32 digs. She is 140 kills away from 1,000 and 279 digs away from 1,000.
• Senior Armania Heckenmueller recorded 59 assists in the game versus Texas State, finishing the weekend with 123 assists. She also averaged 3.17 digs per set with her 38 total digs on the weekend.
• Sophomore Sarah Norcom tied her career high with 13 kills in the match against Dayton.
• The Bearcats scored more points against Kentucky than Dayton and Texas State scored against them for the weekend. 

GAMES THIS WEEKEND
Cincinnati vs. Milwaukee Friday, September 3rd at 4:30 p.m. ET | LIVESTATS

• This season, Milwaukee has started 0-3, with losses to Illinois, UC Santa Barbara and Valparaiso.
• Ari Miller leads the Panthers in points so far with 59. Miller, along with Bri Geurts lead the team in blocks with 11 each.
• The Panthers have been outscored by opponents 208-184 this year.
• Matchup History: 1-1 all-time vs. Milwaukee. Last matchup was on September 15, 2017, where UC won 3-0

• The Fighting Irish started this season ranked 25th and are 2-1 after starting the season off with a loss to No. 15 Western Kentucky.
• They followed up the loss with back-to-back wins against Oakland and Loyola Chicago.
• Matchup History: 7-11 all-time vs. Notre Dame. Last matchup was on September 13, 2019, where UC won 3-1.
• The Irish are receiving votes in the Top-25 poll.

 Cincinnati vs. Bowling Green Sunday, September 5th at 11:30 a.m. ET | LIVESTATS

•  The Falcons have started this season 1-2 with their lone win coming against Butler.
• Their two losses have come against Illinois Chicago and Indiana.
• Matchup History: 14-10 all-time vs. Bowling Green. Last matchup was on September 21, 2019, where UC won 3-0.
