WINNING STREAK
With a win Sunday, the Bearcats would earn their first three-match win streak since the spring, when it knocked off (RV) Tennessee, Houston and ECU. Before that, the squad had ones of four and five in a row in 2017.
HALFTIME LOVE
The Bearcats have led at the half in all three of their wins (2-0 vs. NKU, 2-1 vs. Virginia Tech, 1-0 vs. Ball State), while the tie to Toledo and defeat to Xavier were both scoreless at the break.
HOMESTAND CONCLUDES
This marks the end of the Bearcats' three-game homestand, as well as its combined, 10-mile travel over the first six contests. Next up is a Thursday bout at Kansas.
ROYER'S RACE CONTINUES
After not having a goal since 2017, grad-student defender Karli Royer scored for the second-straight game Thursday. It came halfway between the 18-yard box and midfield on a one-timer off a Ball State deflection, surely one of the more impressive UC goals in recent history. Her game-winner in the 44th minute against Virginia Tech came on a deep free kick as well.
She and Vanessa DiNardo share the team lead with two scores, while Chloe Spitler, Lauren Bastian and Paige Miller each have one.
FRESHMAN REACHES THE SCORING COLUMN
Miller opened the scoring on a short goal in the 38th minute against the Cardinals. She has taken six shots, two on goal, for the season, and it was the first rookie goal for the Bearcats since Spitler in the win over Memphis of last spring's AAC semifinals.
TEAM TALLIES
The Bearcats, helped by sophomore goalkeeper Anna Rexford, have allowed only three non-PK goals in the five matches, boasting a 57-47 shots advantage overall. Opponents also claim a 24-16 corner-kicks margin. Royer and preseason AAC Defensive Player of the Year Ashley Barron have played all 470 minutes, while transfer Maddie Thiss has registered 441.
SCOUTING EASTERN ILLINOIS
Former Panther men's soccer letterwinner Jake Plant is in his fourth season at the helm after previously serving as an assistant to the men's and women's programs. Midfielder Kenzie Balcerek joins returning second team All-OVC selection Itxaso Aguero who led the team in points last season. EIU also returns Nicoletta Anuci who tied for the team lead in goals and Pilar Barrio who led the Panthers in assists.
