CINCINNATI – Two University of Cincinnati volleyball players received weekly honors from the American Athletic Conference for their weekend performances. Senior Maria Mallon was named Offensive Player of the Week and junior Payton Frederick earned a spot on the weekly honor roll for her defensive performance.
Mallon led The American with 5.31 points per set and went for 19 kills, 15 digs and three service aces in a four-set triumph over rival Xavier on September 16th. She closed the weekend with a strong showing at Miami OH on September 18th, recording 15 kills on .263 hitting with 16 digs and four service aces.
She finished the 2-0 weekend with a total of 34 kills with a .253 hitting percentage along with 7 total serving aces, 0.88 services aces per set. She also recorded two more double-doubles, her sixth and seventh, of the season and had a total of 31 digs.
Mallon shares the weekly offensive award with senior McKenna Melville from UCF.
Frederick had an outstanding defensive performance at Miami OH, recording a season high 20 digs, with another 15 against Xavier to total 35 over the two games. She ranked fourth in the conference with 4.38 digs per set in a 2-0 Cincinnati weekend. She also had three aces in the Miami OH match.
