CINCINNATI – Three University of Cincinnati soccer players received weekly honors from the American Athletic Conference for their recent performances. Freshman Paige Miller was named the Rookie of the Week, while senior Vanessa DiNardo and junior Ashley Barron earned spots on the Honor Roll.
Miller, a freshman from Evansville, Indiana, assisted DiNardo's goal in the 29th minute, which served as the game-winner, in Thursday's 1-0 win over Tulsa. It was Miller's sixth point of the season despite having registered only eight shots and playing 244 minutes.
DiNardo's goal was her fifth of season, and she is now tied for the AAC lead in that department. Four have come in the last five home matches after having four goals the previous three seasons. DiNardo also is second on the team with 11 points. Vanessa DiNardo has been wearing No. 3 in honor of her late UC teammate and friend, Ally Sidloski.
Barron, the defending and preseason AAC Defensive Player of the Year, helped limit Tulsa to four shots, with one on goal, in Thursday's 1-0 win over Tulsa. The Bearcats have cut their shots-allowed average from 10.8 to 8.9 this year as well and have not allowed multiple goals in any of their home contests this season.
Cincinnati (5-3-1, 1-0) returns to action with a Thursday road match at Temple.
