VERONA, Wisc. -- Cincinnati junior Sam Jean claimed the Badger Invitational's individual title, and the Bearcats finished third for yet another outstanding performance to begin the fall.

Jean, who rallied from a 73 the first day to card a 67 and 69 in the succeeding rounds, claimed the program's first individual championship since Austin Squires at the Firestone Invitational in October 2017. Jean (7-under 209) also finished tied for fifth in his season debut at the Hoosier Collegiate Invite.

"I'm really happy for Sam," head coach Doug Martin said. "He has been very close to winning and finally closed the deal today with a bogey-free 69 on a very tough day."

Joey McCarthy, who aced the No. 8 hole Monday, improved his score for the third-straight day with a 71 to finish with an even-par 216 and tie for 14th. Clay Amlung also finished there and produced three birdies on the day.

"It was another solid week of golf for the team as far as our finish," Martin said. "I was disappointed with some of our errors this week on routine shots; it cost us another chance to win. It's very important that we learn from this and get back to work to correct our errors."

Mason Lenhart rebounded for an even-par 72, an 11-stroke reduction from the second round. Cole Harris, competing individually, posted his best finish since his freshman season in 2019-20.

Next up for the Bearcats is a trip to the Purdue Fall Invitational, Oct. 11-12.
