SOUTH BEND – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team defeated Bowling Green in five sets (25-19, 25-14, 16-25, 23-25, 15-12) Sunday afternoon in South Bend, Ind. BREAKDOWN
In the first set, it was back-and-forth early. The Bearcats had a 13-11 lead before stretching out their advantage to 22-16. After finishing off the first set, they dominated in the second. UC jumped out to a 9-2 lead and never looked back. The closest Bowling Green would get after that was 5 points when the score was 10-5. The Bearcats dominated most of this set, winning it 25-14. The main observation early was the balanced scoring the Bearcats had. No one player was jumping off the score sheet, they were just attacking Bowling Green from all angles.

The domination would end there for the Bearcats. The third set was even early, but Bowling Green went on a 5-0 run to make it 14-8 and UC was unable to make up the deficit. After being down 12-22, the Bearcats took four out of the next five points, but lost the set 16-25. The fourth set went in a similar fashion. It was close early, but eventually, the Bearcats found themselves down 12-20. They would not go down without a fight, taking seven out of the last nine points and almost coming back for a thrilling victory, but they fell just short.

The fifth and final set was dominated by the Bearcats early, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. They leaned on their biggest strength today, which was scoring depth. Five different Bearcats scored the first nine points in set five, with Shannon Williams scoring three of the first six. After leading 13-8 with victory imminent, Bowling Green chipped away at the lead, making it 13-12. Two final blocks, with Adria Oliver involved in both, sealed the win for the Bearcats, 15-12.
