CINCINNATI, Ohio – Fresh off leading No. 5/6 Cincinnati to a 24-13 road victory at No. 9/7 Notre Dame last weekend, senior quarterback Desmond Ridder appeared on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt late Wednesday night.
The Louisville, Ky., native was named the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Week and collected his sixth career American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor after tallying 323 yards of total offense and three total touchdowns against the Fighting Irish in South Bend, Ind.
In the interview with Van Pelt, Ridder said:
"We can compete with the top dogs in the country," said Ridder. "I think this win shows that we have the confidence to go and play in an away, crazy atmosphere like Notre Dame and be able to put together a win."
Ridder also appeared on FS1's "Breaking the Huddle" with Joel Klatt on Wednesday.
"Coach Fickell always says that team success is going to build individual success, and I feel like I'm a prime example of that," said Ridder. "All the teammates and coaches that I've had throughout my entire career have put me and my teammates in a position to be where we are now."
The 6-4, 215-pounder has passed for 1,045 yards and nine touchdowns on 73 of 115 attempts against just two interceptions through four games in 2021, while adding 108 yards and three scores on the ground.
Described as the "Ridder Factor," by UC head coach Luke Fickell, the graduate signal-caller has been at his best when it matters most. According to PFF College, Ridder is the highest-graded QB in the fourth quarter in the nation (93.9).
In the fourth quarter this season, Ridder has tossed for 271 yards and two touchdowns and completed 73% of his pass attempts. He has rushed for two touchdowns, as Cincinnati has outscored opponents 57-20 in the final frame.
