CINCINNATI -- Lightning at 3:29 p.m. ET and an eventual 5:02 p.m. suspension of the second round was the way Monday ended for the Cincinnati men's golf team, which was in second after the first 18 holes of the Purdue Fall Invitational.
Joey McCarthy shot out of the gates with a 3-under 69, one stroke off the lead. Clay Amlung followed with an even-par 72 for eighth, with Mason Lenhart (74), Sam Jean and Ty Gingerich (76) coming in at 22nd and 42nd, respectively. Cole Harris has an 82 as he competes individually.
"We played really solid today on a tough day to play," head coach Doug Martin said. "Kampen is a very demanding golf course, and we did a great job executing difficult shots all day. I'm real excited to watch this team compete again tomorrow. Great playing by both Joey and Clay who did a great job today managing their games. We have another chance tomorrow to grow as a team. It's very important that we continue focusing on our execution, as it will be vital to our success."
The Bearcats are just two strokes off from Indiana, which they defeated on its home course in the season-opening Hoosier Collegiate Invitational title.
Pairings will remain the same as the final round-plus wrap up Tuesday. The Bearcats were in their seventh and eighth holes.
