PORT CLINTON, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati women's golf team shaved off 12 strokes from its first round to climb to third heading into Tuesday's final round of the Rocket Classic.
Sadie Pan is in second place with a 3-over 147, only one stroke off the lead. Both her 74 and 73 are personal-bests. Katie Hallinan shook off an 83 to card a 74 and race back into 20th, while Julia Rabadam is tied for No. 31 with a 160. Makenna Jones and Paighton Masterson are 35th and 38th, respectively.
"Again, the team was so tense the first nine holes, which carries over to the first 18," head coach Janet Carl said. "Then they have a hole to dig their way out of the second round. We were proud of the effort in that part today, as they were able to climb the leaderboard. Sadie has a chance at her first individual title tomorrow as she currently sits one stroke behind the leader."
The Bearcats' 12-stroke improvement is a tournament-high and allowed them to jump four spots from the first round. While the team has only faced one three-round event this season, it fared well in the season-opening Pirate Collegiate Classic and will look to do the same this time around.
