WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Joey McCarthy's career-high, second-place finish highlighted the University of Cincinnati's trip to the Purdue Fall Invitational, where the Bearcats came in fifth.
Monday's first and second rounds were marred by a lightning delay and eventual suspension halfway through the latter lap. This field also featured three of the top 33 teams.
"We continue to do some great things but have yet to play a complete round through three events," head coach Doug Martin said. "Our mistakes are coming at very poor times and prevent us from continuing to build momentum. We have a quick turnaround and head to NC State, where we will continue to work on cleaning up our mistakes. I'm very happy for Joey. Finishing second in this field should really help his confidence."
McCarthy became the fourth Bearcat to earn a top-10 finish in just three tournaments, joining Sam Jean, Ty Gingerich and Clay Amlung. Those three all posted par-or-better rounds to close, with Jean's 69 marking a seven-stroke improvement from his opener and tying the best of UC's week.
Next up for the Bearcats is the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, Saturday and Sunday in Raleigh, N.C.
