CINCINNATI – Cincinnati junior running back Jerome Ford was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after he rushed for 179 yards and four touchdowns in the first half of Saturday's 56-21 win over UCF at Nippert Stadium.
Ford finished with 189 rushing yards and four scores on 20 carries as the second-ranked Bearcats eclipsed 50 points in back-to-back games for the first time in school history. UC's No. 2 ranking in the AP poll is also its highest-ever.
It marks the second straight week Ford has been named the conference's top offensive player after he rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries in the 52-3 win over Temple.
The Tampa, Fla., native ranks second nationally with 12 rushing touchdowns and seventh with 118.2 rushing yards per game.
Ford's 79-yard touchdown in the second quarter put UC ahead 28-0 and his 4-yard score gave the Bearcats a 35-0 advantage.
Senior cornerback Coby Bryant snagged AAC honor roll mention for the second consecutive week, as well, after recording his first career pick-six, a 74-yard touchdown that put Cincinnati in front 42-7 in the third quarter.
BRYANT ADDS PFF COLLEGE TEAM OF THE WEEK HONOR
In addition to AAC accolades, Bryant was named to the PFF College National Team of the Week on Sunday following his performance against UCF.
On the season, Bryant leads Cincinnati with nine passes defended, including two interceptions. He ranks tied for sixth nationally with 1.50 passes defended per game. His 40 career passes defended rank fourth in the nation among active players.
Bryant leads the nation's top pass defense, which is allowing opposing quarterbacks to complete only 49.5% of their passes with a 87.98 efficiency rating and just four touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions.
Earlier this season, Bryant was named the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week following the 24-13 win at No. 9 Notre Dame.
