CINCINNATI, OH --The Cincinnati volleyball team needed only three sets (26-24, 26-24, 25-19) to take down the Tulane Green Wave Sunday at home at Fifth Third Arena.
The conference victory improved Cincinnati's record to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in AAC play.
The Bearcats were led by a double-double from Maria Mallon, who registered 11 kills and 12 digs on the day. Kailea Carrier also added 11 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kerstin Ficker chipped in for UC with eight digs to go with five blocks from Carrier.
Game Notes
» Cincinnati had three players in double figures in kills.
» Abby Walker had a match-high three aces to go with 10 kills in the win.
» Maria Mallon registered a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. It is her fourth-straight double-double.
» Kailea Carrier had a team-high 11 kills for Cincinnati. She also tied a career-high with five blocks.
» Shannon Williams ended the day with seven kills, three of them being the final three points of the match.
» Cincinnati attackers were helped by a match-high 38 assists from Emme Madden. Madden also had a career-high with three blocks.
» The Bearcats have won three in a row against Tulane, sweeping them in all three.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bearcats came out on top of a close first set, winning 26-24 in a stanza that was tied six times and had two lead changes. Carrier had a very strong first set, hammering home five kills and having all four UC blocks.
SET 2 | After its win in the first set, Cincinnati put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 26-24 victory in set number two. The Bearcats came back from being down 12-18 in a set with an electric ending. Maria Mallon took over for the Bearcats late, scoring three out of the final five points for the Bearcats.
SET 3 | Cincinnati finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing set three. The Bearcats grabbed control of the set early when the score was 6-5 and never looked back, winning 25-19. Cincinnati ended on a strong note, opening up its biggest lead of the set, six points, to close it out, collecting 15 kills while only registering two attack errors along the way. The Cincinnati offense also got a boost from three aces. S. Williams ended the game with three-straight kills.

The Bearcats are on the road next week, playing against SMU at 8:00 p.m. on Friday then going to Memphis for a 2:00 p.m. game on Sunday.
