CINCINNATI, OH --The Cincinnati volleyball team once again came back from down 1-2 to win 3-2 over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Sunday at home at Fifth Third Arena.
The conference win improved Cincinnati's record to 17-9 overall and 12-6 in AAC play.
The Bearcats were led by a double-double from Maria Mallon, who registered 23 kills and 19 digs on the day. Kailea Carrier also added 12 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Payton Frederick chipped in for UC with 16 digs to go with five blocks from Abby Walker.
Game Notes
» Abby Walker had a team-high five blocks in the win. She chipped in with seven kills.
» Maria Mallon registered a double-double with 23 kills and 19 digs, which were both team-highs. She's recorded a double-double in 11 of her last 12 games.
» Cincinnati served up nine aces today,
» Kailea Carrier tied for second on the team with 12 kills.
» Cincinnati attackers were helped by a team-high 38 assists from Emme Madden.
» Adria Oliver put up 12 kills with a .476 hitting percentage.
» Payton Frederick had 16 digs, second-most on the team.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bearcats won the first point and never trailed to win the first set 25-15. Cincinnati led by 11 points at 23-12 before finishing off the set. Cincinnati also supplemented their offense with five aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Cincinnati dropped set two 26-24 to even the match 1-1. The Bearcats came up short in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 18 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Cincinnati lost again in the third set to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Bearcats dropped the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set 25-19.
SET 4 | Cincinnati broke their two set losing streak and forced a fifth set with a thrilling 25-22 victory in set number four. The Bearcats seized the set win despite falling behind by as many as eight points at 16-8 before fighting back to claim victory. Cincinnati went on a 10-0 after being down 13-20 to storm back for the lead. The Bearcats ended the set on a 12-1 run.
SET 5 | Cincinnati fought back from down two sets to one to win the next two sets, culminating in a 15-10 fifth-set victory, and secure the 3-2 win. The Bearcats took the fifth set thanks to a solid showing on the attacking side. Cincinnati registered a .318 attack percentage with nine kills in the set win. The Bearcats opened up a 13-6 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
