THE RUNDOWN
Cincinnati is looking to right the ship after a heartbreaking 61-59 loss to Monmouth on Saturday. The Bearcats were coming off a stellar week in Kansas City in which they blew past No. 14 Illinois (71-51) before falling late to No. 12 Arkansas (73-67). Wednesday's game will mark the 148th meeting with Miami, the most of any UC opponent.
The Bearcats have out-rebounded their opponents by a plus-8.0 margin in their five wins, but are minus-8.0 in the two defeats. UC ranks third in the AAC with just 58.1 ppg allowed, as only Arkansas has surpassed 70. Saturday's game also saw sophomore Mason Madsen make his first-career start with John Newman III held out. Mika Adams-Woods' clean handling continued with a season-high five assists for the third time this season to go along with a career-high three steals. He is now seventh nationally with a 5.5 assist-turnover ratio.
Until Monmouth's 8-for-16 showing from deep, the Bearcats had held its three previous opponents to just 14.8 percent (8-for-54). UC also committed only five turnovers, its fewest since Feb. 10, 2019 at Houston. The Bearcats' 35.4 defensive field-goal percentage still ranks second in the AAC. This is also UC's first true road contest of the season; it is 26-17 in such games the last four years, including 5-5 last season.
SERIES HISTORY
The 147 meetings between the teams mark the most of any Cincinnati opponent. Louisville (99) and Dayton (91) follow. The last matchup came a decade ago, as Cincinnati outlasted the RedHawks in a 56-47 defensive struggle on Nov. 29, 2011. Four Bearcats scored in double-figures, led by Cheikh Mbodj's 12 off the bench. UC has won 13-straight games in the series, with the last defeat on Dec. 1, 1990 in Oxford.
