Bearcats Bounce Back Against South Florida, Win 3-1

CINCINNATI, OH --The Cincinnati volleyball team rallied after an early one-set deficit to secure a 3-1 win (17-25, 25-14, 25-12, 25-20) over the South Florida Bulls Sunday at home at Fifth Third Arena.

CINCINNATI, OH --The Cincinnati volleyball team rallied after an early one-set deficit to secure a 3-1 win (17-25, 25-14, 25-12, 25-20) over the South Florida Bulls Sunday at home at Fifth Third Arena.

The conference victory improved Cincinnati's record to 14-8 overall and 9-5 in AAC play.

The Bearcats were led by a double-double from Maria Mallon, who registered 10 kills and 25 digs on the day. Madison Waters also added 11 kills to help the attack.Payton Frederick also pitched in with five in the contest. On the defensive end, Frederick chipped in for UC with 12 digs to go with six blocks from Abby Walker.

Game Notes
» The Bearcats had 13 blocks as a team, setting a new season-high for them.
» Payton Frederick had a match-high five aces in the win, which is her career-high.
» Maria Mallon registered a double-double with 10 kills and 25 digs. It is her eighth-straight double-double. She also recorded a season-high in blocks. 
» Madison Waters had a match-high 11 kills for Cincinnati, which is also a season-high for her. Her three blocks were also a career-high. 
» Adria Oliver recorded a season-high five blocks. 
» Cincinnati attackers were helped by a match-high 23 assists from Emme Madden.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Bearcats fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-17. Cincinnati trailed by as many as eight points as South Florida never gave up the lead in a set that was knotted up two times before the Bulls took control.

SET 2 | Cincinnati responded to pick up a 25-14 victory in the second set, tying the match at one set apiece. The Bearcats took control of the set lead early on at 6-5 and held the lead the rest of the way. Cincinnati opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 11 points, to finish off the set. Cincinnati's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four South Florida attacks in the set.

SET 3 | Cincinnati grabbed another win in set three to make it a 2-1 match. The Bearcats took control of the set early when the score was 5-4 and never trailed to win 25-12. The Cincinnati offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza. Cincinnati had another five blocks in this set. 

SET 4 | Cincinnati earned a match win with a 25-20 fourth-set victory, winning their third set in a row. A strong performance on the attacking end led the Bearcats to victory in the set. Cincinnati registered a .333 attack percentage with 15 kills. Cincinnati also supplemented their offense with four aces in the set.
