CINCINNATI - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced its latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data today with the University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics maintaining an overall department rate above 92% for the third consecutive year.
Cincinnati recorded a 93% overall GSR, joining last year's 94% rate and the 2019 rate of 92% as the three highest ratings for the department in the 17 years the NCAA has announced the data.
Among NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision schools, UC tied for the 18th-highest graduation rate nationally. The Bearcats are tied for the second-highest GSR in the American Athletic Conference.
"At the University of Cincinnati, we talk about achieving next-level success and our Graduation Success Rate really exemplifies that," Director of Athletics John Cunningham said. "The hard work of our Student Athlete Support Services (SASS) and the support of our coaching staffs have made this accomplishment possible. The significance of a college degree cannot be overstated, and it gives me great pride that our student-athletes are receiving their degrees at a rate that is among the best in the country."
Every Cincinnati sport posted an 82 percent or above GSR with six sports achieving a perfect 100, including men's golf, women's golf, women's cross country/track and field, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis and women's volleyball.
"Consistent success in the classroom has become a pillar of the student-athlete experience at the University of Cincinnati thanks to the partnership between our SASS staff and our coaches in making earning a degree a priority," said Dr. Joe Luckey, Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS). "We are excited to rank among the nation's best in GSR once again and are proud of our student-athletes and our SASS team."
The data released Thursday is based upon a six-year cohort and includes only student-athletes who received athletic scholarships, enrolled at Cincinnati as freshmen or incoming transfers from 2011-14, and completed their degree within six years. According to the NCAA, the graduation rate (percent) is based on a comparison of the number of students who entered a college or university and the number of those who graduated within six years. For example, if 100 students entered and 60 graduated within six years, the graduation rate is 60 percent.
