TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Cincinnati baseball team got another strong outing from starter Zach Segal and the offense scored four runs in the first five innings on the way to a 5-3 win over South Florida in the second game of a Friday doubleheader at USF Baseball Stadium.
Cincinnati (20-19, 9-9 American Athletic Conference) earned a split in the Friday DH with the Bulls (16-20, 6-8 AAC) after falling 4-2 in game one earlier today.
Zach Segal (4-3) made his second-straight quality start, throwing 105 pitches over 6.2 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Dean McCarthy picked up his second save in 2.1 innings of work which featured five strikeouts.
Once again, Joey Bellini got the offense going with an RBI single in the first, scoring Jace Mercer who was hit by a pitch.
The Bearcats added two in the second after a leadoff single by Ryan Nicholson led to the first baseman scoring on an error following a stolen base. Cole Harting singled to right to score Griffin Merritt.
Paul Komistek had an RBI single in the third which scored Eric Santiago and Tanner Holen singled up the middle with two outs in the eighth and plated Santiago. Santiago finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
