Echikunwoke won the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field title in the weight throw, becoming only the fifth individual national champion in Bearcats history. All four of UC's previous individual national titles came in the swimming pool, making her the only track and field national champion in school history.

She will make her Olympic debut in July and is the third former UC student-athlete to earn a nomination to the games, joining Jordan Thompson (United States – Volleyball) and Vanessa Gilles (Canada - Soccer).

Echikunwoke currently is a volunteer coach for the Bearcats.
