CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's basketball team ends a three-game home series when they welcome the Wichita State Shockers to Fifth Third Arena Thursday, January 13 for a 7 p.m. matchup.

THE SERIES
Cincinnati leads the series 5-1, with the series tied at 1-1 in Fifth Third Arena.

Last time out, sophomore guard Jillian Hayes scored 17 points as UC nearly completed a furious second-half comeback in a 60-52 loss to Wichita State in Fifth Third Arena on Jan. 27, 2021.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS 
Cincinnati (7-7, 0-2 AAC) had a late comeback but ultimately fell at home to Temple 75-68 on Saturday at Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats held the Owls to just 40.6% from the floor and only 20% from three-point range. Junior guard Caitlyn Wilson put in 17 points in four three-pointers, junior guard Akira Levy poured in 15 points, dished out seven assists and had two steals while sophomore guard Jillian Hayes and sophomore forward Malea Williams flirted with double-doubles, each with eight points and eight rebounds.

Junior point guard Akira Levy  ranks second in the conference and 16th in the nation in assists (80) and assists per game (5.7).  She is first in the conference and 29th in the nation in steals (36)  and is also first in the conference and 26th in the nation with free throws made (58).

Levy leads the team in points (194), points per game (13.9), field goals a game (4.3), free throws made (58), assists (80), and steals (36). Sophomore guard Jillian Hayes leads the team in rebounds (91) and blocks (20) while junior forward Caitlyn Wilson leads the team in three point shots (21) and three point shots a game (1.5).

SCOUTING THE SHOCKERS
The Shockers (9-5, 0-1 AAC) come into Cincinnati on the back of three straight losses at the hands of North Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma. Their AAC clash with No. 24 South Florida was postponed due to COVID-19.

Last time out, Wichita St. fell to Houston at home as the visitors used a game-sealing 13-0 run in the fourth quarter for a 66-61 win. Senior guard Mariah McCully scored 23 points, 15 from three-point land, en route to her seventh straight double-digit scoring performance.

Wichita State is lead offensively by McCully who averages 13.3 ppg to go along with her 35 assists good for second in the team. 

Junior forward Jane Asinde leads all Shockers with 9.3 rebounds and is third in scoring with 9.4 points per game. Junior guard Seraphine Bastin is 5th in the AAC with 54 assists. Bastin is consist at the free-throw line, her 78.8 from the line this season is the third best mark in the conference.

This season is the 50th anniversary of the Women's Basketball program. Then known as the Lady Bearcats, the team finished it's first season in 1971 with a 9-6 record. The Bearcats have been led by Mary Jo Huismann, former men's basketball player Tom Thacker (1974-1978, 55-43), Ceal Barry (1979-1981, 83-42), Sandy Smith (1983-1986, 49-37), Laurie Pirtle (1986-2007, most wins in program history with 310), and Jamelle Elliott (2009-2017, 113-162).

We will celebrate and honor 50 seasons of Bearcats' women's basketball on Saturday, Feb. 19 when the Bearcats host ECU for a 2 p.m. game.
