CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics will host its seventh annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) Celebration on Saturday, Jan. 29.
NGWSD is celebrated annually around the country on February 2 to commemorate the achievements of girls and women in athletics. The initiative also aims to promote the continued expansion of opportunities for girls and women to play sports and live physically active lives.
Cincinnati Athletics will host a NGWSD celebration event for current Bearcats' female student-athletes alongside the women's basketball home game against Tulsa at 2 p.m. The event will start at noon in the Arena Classrooms behind Fifth Third Arena and consist of a panel discussion, breakout sessions and a luncheon.
After the event ends around 2 p.m., participants will head out to the arena to cheer on the Bearcats. Tickets to the game are free for current student-athletes and all fans are encouraged to wear black. In-game celebrations include junior point guard Akira Levy singing the national anthem and a basketball presentation to Dr. Jane Sojko and former cross-country student-athlete Hannah Markel for their contributions to women in sports.
The NGWSD celebration will continue on Bearcats' social media Wednesday, February 2 when a female representative from each team will share their thoughts on the positive impact of sports for women. You can follow @GoBearcats on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for more on the celebration.
