IRVING, Texas – University of Cincinnati junior swimmer Michael Balcerak was named the AAC Swimming Athlete of the Week by the conference on Tuesday following his performances over the weekend against the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville.
The Arlington Heights, Ill., native swam a 1:45.69 in the 200-yard butterfly to finish first against the Cardinals, good enough to set a NCAA B-Standard time.
Balcerak picked up second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly against Kentucky and followed up his performance a day later with a second-place finish in 500-yard freestyle at Louisville.
The freestyle and butterfly specialist also competed in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2nd), 400-yard medley relay (2nd) at Kentucky and the 200-yard medley relay (2nd) against Louisville.
Last season, Balcerak was a leader for the Bearcats. He won three events at the 2020 AAC Championships, taking gold in the 100-yard butterfly (46.97), 500-yard freestyle (4:22.64) and 200-yard medley relay (1:25.54)
This is the second consecutive week a Bearcat has been named the AAC Swimming Athlete of the Week. Sophomore Jessica Davis won the award last Tuesday, as well.
