THE RUNDOWN
Cincinnati was unable to fully counter Tulsa's offensive attack on the road Saturday, as the host Golden Hurricane became just the second team to shoot 50-plus percent in an 83-77 win. UC was 12-1 when scoring 70-plus (only loss at Memphis on Jan. 9). UC attempted season-highs of 36 three-pointers and 74 field goals, the former tying for third in school history, while its 12 deep makes marked the eighth time with 10 in a game.
David DeJulius' 23 points made him the first Bearcat with three-straight, 20-point games since Jarron Cumberland in February 2019 (eight for this season). DeJulius is second in AAC-play with 17.3 ppg and fourth in field-goal percentage (43.4), the only player to be top-five in each. His scoring output is up 5.6 ppg from last year to a team-high 14.7, and his three-point clip is up 12.8 percent. Jeremiah Davenport remains second in league play for three-point shooting (39.8 percent) and fourth overall (37.2 percent).
Mason Madsen went 3-for-5 from deep against Tulsa, the team's first loss of his career in which he made three or more (5-1 overall). His 16 minutes were his most since his first-career start on Nov. 27. Mike Saunders Jr. averaged 9.0 ppg on 6-of-10 shooting for the week (3-for-5 from deep), his highest-scoring, two-game output since AAC play began. The Bearcats' 10 steals at Tulsa matched season-highs against Bryant and Presbyterian, and the 22-for-57 clip from deep (38.6 percent) came after shooting 21.3 the previous three games.
SERIES HISTORY
Cincinnati's 47-36 all-time mark includes an 11-5 record in AAC play.
The Jan. 9 meeting between the teams was an instant classic, with the Tigers prevailing 87-80 remains the most combined points of any UC game this season. The Bearcats' 16 three-pointers (30 attempts) were a FedExForum team-collegiate record, and combined with the Tulsa win on Jan. 20 tie for fourth in school history.
Cincinnati led by one with two minutes left, but Memphis' home-court advantage was too much to overcome. Davenport rained down seven threes on 10 tries, despite foul trouble and limited first-half play, while John Newman III and Mika Adams-Woods added three as well. The 47.0-percent shooting night remains UC's second-best in AAC play.
Saunders, who had just two do ble-figure scoring games while averaging 3.5 ppg as a freshman reserve, went for a career-high 19 in the team's lone meeting last year, an 80-74 home defeat.
