CINCINNATI – The Bearcats wrap up their 2021-22 season at the American Athletic Conference Championships February 13-16 at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium in Dallas, Texas.

Cincinnati will be one of five universities competing this week, joining East Carolina, Houston, SMU and Tulane.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats last raced on January 28 against the University of Kentucky and the 29th against the University of Louisville.
At Kentucky, senior Dominic Polling won the 100-yard breaststroke (55.96), freshman Meghan Fleury clocked two new season-best times in the 100-yard backstroke (58.35) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.78) while senior Blake Hanna and sophomore Hunter Gubeno grabbed a one-two finish for the Bearcats with times of 49.37 and 49.74 in the 100-yard backstroke.
Against Louisville, in the 200-yard butterfly, Balcerak finished first with a NCAA-B standard time of 1:45.69 and freshman Collin Singler finished third with a time of 1:49.38. In the longest event of the day, senior Sydney St. Rose-Finear finished strong with a time of 16:28.46 in the 1650-yard freestyle and Graduate student Audrey Capannari finished third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 252.83.
LAST TIME AT THE AAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
For the second year running, the men's swim and dive team finished second with a final score of 1,089 and the women's team came in third with a score of 732.50.
Senior Matea Sumajstorcic won in the 1650-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 16:25.48, followed by St. Rose-Finear who finished second with a time of 16:35.48.
Hanna added another gold to his collection and broke his own school record of 1:41.92 in the men's 200-yard backstroke. The Bearcats swept the remaining podium spots with Hunter Gubeno and Conor Lynch placing second and third, respectively.
Balcerak won the 200-yard butterfly (1:46.66) and was named the 2021 AAC Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer honor as he took home four first place finishes (500-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard butterfly) and three second places (400-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay).
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
ECU women's swimming and diving program finished their regular season with a 2-8 mark and they are competing in their first championship since 2020 when they finished fourth with 461.5 points.
The University of Houston women's swimming and diving squad finished the season 5-2 and they enter this week as the reigning AAC Champions after besting SMU, Cincinnati and Tulane last year.
The SMU men's swimming and diving team come in after a first-place finish in the SMU Invite over Drury, Fresno State and Hawaii. The SMU women's swimming and diving team come into the championships after finishing runner-up last season.
The Tulane women's swimming and diving team finished up their 2021-22 season at 1-4 and look to build off a fifth place finish in 2020 and fourth in 2021.
