CINCINNATI- The University of Cincinnati tennis teams travels to Cleveland, Ohio for a weekend full of matches. The Bearcats face the University of Toledo on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. and then Cleveland State University on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY
Toledo leads the overall series 11-10. The last time the Bearcats faced the Rockets was on Feb. 2, 2019, where UC won the match 7-0. Maria Santilli extended her streak in singles victories to four matches with a 6-2, 6-3 victory, Ioana Guna moved from #2 to the #1 court and notched a 6-4, 6-3 victory of her own and Emma Miceli secured a 6-4, 7-5 victory in singles action.
Cincinnati and Cleveland State have only faced-off one time before, back on April 12, 1992 when the Bearcats won the match 9-0.
A LOOK AT THE BEARCATS
The Bearcats are 2-3 overall and ready to play after two weeks off. Last time out, Cincinnati secured a 5-2 win over Butler on Jan. 29.
Graduate senior Emma Miceli's fourth win of the season gave her 72 career singles wins to own the No. 2 spot all-time in UC history and moved up to the No. 5 spot with 128 total career wins, surpassing Pam Whitehead who has 127 total career wins.
Redshirt junior Maria Santilli is 3-1 in singles action, while Kelli Niehaus is undefeated in singles with a 3-0 record.
SCOUTING THE ROCKETS:
Toledo is 6-1 to start the season and 5-0 at home.
With a win against Duquesne, the Rockets have won six in a row and 10-straight at home going back to April 2, 2021. Sophomore Cassie Alcala remains undefeated on the season, claiming the MAC Singles Player of the Week back on Feb. 1.
Alcala and her doubles partner, junior Sloane Teske, are 5-2 this season. They've won their last three doubles matchups 6-3, 6-0, and 6-1.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS:
The Vikings are 6-2 overall following a 6-1 win over Slippery Rock.
Singles player Bethany Yauch has a team-best 13-6 overall record on the year, with freshman Oihane Vicario and Tereze Vevere not far behind with a 12-7 overall record Vicario has won eight of the her last 10 matches.
COACH TOTH WATCH
Coach Toth currently has 75 career wins as the Bearcats head coach. He is four wins away from securing the No. 2 spot all-time and surpassing Marty Wolf's 79 career wins.
