GAME 2 | FGCU 10, Cincinnati 5
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Despite picking up eight hits in the ballgame and out-hitting FGCU, the university of Cincinnati baseball team was unable to push across more runs, as the Bearcats lost to the Eagles, 10-5, Saturday.
Redshirt sophomore pitcher Alex Shea (0-1) got the ball to start for Cincinnati (2-1) and ended the night giving up two earned runs over 3.2 innings and striking out three.
Redshirt sophomore infielder Ryan Nicholson led the way offensively for the Bearcats, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI. Redshirt junior outfielder Griffin Merritt sent one over the fence as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Redshirt senior infielder Wyatt Stapp also chipped in, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
GAME NOTES
» Shea made his first career start in a Bearcat uniform.
» The Bearcats out-hit the Eagles at an 8-7 clip.
» Sophomore outfielder Cole Harting extended his on-base streak to 15 games with a double in the third inning.
» Merritt went deep for the third-straight game to begin the season after launching one over the wall in left field in the second inning to go back-to-back with Nicholson.
» Nicholson's homer makes it his second on the young season. He went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
» Merritt and Nicholson's back-to-back home runs were the first for UC since Harting and redshirt junior Paul Komistek did it on March 20, 2021, against Xavier.
