TicketsCINCINNATI -- Redshirt sophomore outfielder JP Sponseller was named one of Collegiate Baseball's national players of the week Monday for his performance at the plate in five games this past week. He was also named to the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Honor Roll.
His most impressive game of the week came against Northwestern in game two of Saturday's doubleheader when Sponseller hit three home runs and had seven RBIs. The three homers tied a Cincinnati record for home runs in a game and the seven RBIs were one short of tying a Cincinnati record. He's the first Bearcat to hit three homers in the same game since Cameron Satterwhite did it on April 17, 2007, versus Ohio.
Overall, Sponseller went 7-18 (.388) in the five games with four homers, seven runs, eight RBIs and two walks. He was the designated hitter for UC in every game.
These are Sponseller's first weekly honors of the season.
