TicketsPLACIDA, Fla. -- The University of Cincinnati played its best round to conclude the Coral Creek Club Invitational, jumping a tourney-best five spots to finish seventh in the 16-team field.
Clay Amlung matched a season-low with a 69, which also marked the Bearcats' best of the tourney, to close it out in a tie for 24th. His previous low was in the second round of the Badger Invitational. The team's even-par 284 was also its lowest of any final round this season.
"We fought very hard today," head coach Doug Martin said. "Men's college golf right now is very close right now. Twelve top-100 teams were in this field and it was very tightly contested for three rounds. We have six days to prepare for Colleton River, and between now and then, we need to work on cleaning things up from an execution standpoint."
Joey McCarthy (t-28) and Ty Gingerich (t-37) were next in line, followed by Sam Jean and Mason Lenhart. McCarthy had an even-71 (including four birdies over a five-hole span) after a 70 in his second round, while Jean's 72 was his best of the week.
Host Florida Gulf Coast took the title with a 14-under 838, 12 strokes ahead of second-place North Florida.
UC will stay down south for the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C. from Monday-Tuesday.
