Michael Balcerak Captures CSCAA National Invitational Championship

Cincinnati junior swimmer Michael Balcerak capped the 2021-22 season by winning the 200-yard butterfly at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship on Saturday at the Beacon Health Aquatic Center.

ELKHART, Ind. – Cincinnati junior swimmer Michael Balcerak capped the 2021-22 season by winning the 200-yard butterfly at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship on Saturday at the Beacon Health Aquatic Center.
 
The Bearcats men's swimming team finished eighth out of 30 teams at the NIC, which provides a culminating event for those Division I swimmers and divers that have achieved B/Zone standards, but are not selected for the NCAA Division I Championships.
 
UC had 16 student-athletes (four women and 12 men) compete at the event.
 
Balcerak led the way by winning the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 1:44.04. Teammate sophomore Tommy Eaton was not far behind, placing third in 1:45.56.
 
Balcerak also placed third in the 100-yard butterfly in 46.89 and sixth in the 50-yard butterfly in 21.50. Sophomore Drew Hawthorne finished eighth in the 50-yard butterfly (21.70)
 
Sophomore Hunter Gubeno finished second in the men's 200m IM finals with a time of 1:47.07. He also placed third in the 200m backstroke, clocking a time of 1:44.09. Gubeno picked up a seventh-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke (22.41) and an eighth-place mark in the 100-yard backstroke (48.53).
 
Also, advancing to an 'A' final was junior Spencer Sehlhorst, who finished ninth in the finals for the 400-yard IM (3:54.73).
 
The Bearcats had three relays finish in the top seven, as well.
 
The 800-yard relay finished fourth with time of 6:33.21.
 
The 200-yard freestyle relay placed seventh with a time of 1:20.75, while the 200-yard medley relay also placed seventh in 1:28.16.
