TicketsSPARTANBURG, SC -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team dropped Tuesday's game to Wofford, 8-1. The game wraps up a five-day road trip for the Bearcats in South Carolina that began Friday against Michigan State.
Redshirt junior pitcher Jackson Murphy (1-2) came out of the bullpen for Cincinnati (6-9) and took the loss. Sophomore pitcher Conner Linn was a bright spot for the Bearcats, starting the ballgame and throwing four innings, giving up one run on five hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.
Offensively, the Bearcats were paced by sophomore outfielder Cole Harting, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Bearcats put their only run on the board in the fifth inning. Harting tied the game at one a piece with a one-out solo home run off freshman Coulson Buchanan. Wofford then scored seven times in the last four innings to break the tie and grab the 8-1 win.
GAME NOTES
- Harting crushed his third home run of the season to left in the fifth inning. The solo shot gave Harting his 10th RBI of the year, good for fourth-most on the team.
- Linn started today's game and threw four innings, giving up one unearned run and striking out three batters. Today's outing improved his season ERA to 2.61.
- Redshirt sophomore infielder Max Palmieri recorded his first hit as a Bearcat in the sixth inning on an infield single.
