TicketsCINCINNATI --The University of Cincinnati baseball team suffered a 9-6 loss to the Saint Joseph's (PA) Hawks Friday.
Graduate pitcher Tristan Weaver (2-2) got the ball to start for Cincinnati (6-10) and took the loss.
On offense, redshirt junior outfielder Paul Komistek had a double, a home run and two RBIs to lead the Bearcats. Redshirt freshman infielder Kerrington Cross went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Redshirt sophomore catcher Joe Powell also pitched in for the Bearcats, putting together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearcats got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with the game still scoreless. Powell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Cincinnati and got it on the board.
The Bearcats then held the Hawks scoreless before scoring again the very next inning. Cincinnati scored twice on Cross' two-run homer, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Bearcats.
Cincinnati's lead had evaporated by the time the fourth inning came around and turned into a 7-3 Saint Joseph's advantage, when the Bearcats cut that deficit to 7-4.
Cincinnati kept the Hawks off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fifth. The Bearcats scored twice on Komistek's two-run homer, tightening the Saint Joseph's lead to 7-6. The Bearcats were unable to get any closer, as Saint Joseph's added two runs to their tally on the way to a 9-6 final.
GAME NOTES
» Komistek led the Bearcats at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. The home run was his fourth of the season, which ties him for third-most on the team.
» Cross hit the first home run of his career in the second inning on a rocket to left.
» Powell led off the game with a triple into the right-center field gap. It was his second triple of the year.
» Sophomore outfielder Cole Harting and redshirt sophomore infielder Ryan Nicholson each racked up a stolen base today. They are both tied for the team-lead with four.
