STATESBORO, Ga. -- The University of Cincinnati men's golf team is tied for fourth after a 2-under 286 in Saturday's second round of the Schenkel Invitational, fighting through a 50-minute weather delay in the process.
Clay Amlung's 68 was his second-lowest this year, only to his school-record 64 to conclude the Colleton River Collegiate in the last outing. Ty Gingerich, who along with Mason Lenhart had a team-high six birdies, has been the other star with a second-straight 1-under 71, while Lenhart leaped back into the fray with a 71 that was a five-stroke improvement from Friday.
"We survived a very poor start and sloppy performance today," head coach Doug Martin said. "Clay played great and Mason and Ty played their last seven holes six under to help save the day. The swirling winds made some holes play very difficult today. We have another chance tomorrow to make a move, and we must perform at a higher level than we did today."
Cincinnati, which shattered a school-record with a 270 to close its last tourney, will look for similar success Sunday in the final round. The Bearcats remain 2-under for the weekend.
