STATESBORO, Ga. -- The Cincinnati men's golf team was unable to get the final push it needed Sunday, ultimately finishing seventh in the Schenkel Invitational.

The field featured four top-50 teams, with the Bearcats finishing ahead of No. 50 West Virginia and No. 47 Florida Gulf Coast, and were four strokes away from finishing in the top-four.

Clay Amlung finished as the team leader with an even-par 216, while Sam Jean owned the strongest round with five birdies and a 3-under 69, his eighth in the 60s this year. He has also accomplished the feat in seven of eight tournaments overall.

Ty Gingerich was also 23rd thanks to two under-par rounds to start, while Joey McCarthy and Mason Lenhart rounded out the scorecard.

"Another poor start today just put us behind from the start," head coach Doug Martin said. "Tough hole locations didn't give us many chances to recover and erase many of our errors. Sam had a solid round today. Overall, we just have to continue figuring out ways to get off to better starts. When we do, the rounds have fallen into place."

Next up for the Bearcats is Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Invitational, April 1-3 in Nashville.
