BLUFFTON, S.C. -- The Cincinnati men's golf team wrapped up Day 1 of the Colleton River Collegiate in sixth place out of 15 teams at Nicklaus Golf Course in Bluffton, S.C. As a team, the Bearcats had a team-score of 573 (-3), just seven strokes behind second-place Kansas State.
Junior Sam Jean (T6) and sophomore Ty Gingerich (T6) were UC's top performers on the day, both ending three strokes under par. Senior Clay Amlung (T27) also shot well and has a score of 146 (+2) after 36 holes.
Jean led the field with 27 pars and senior Joe McCarthy was two behind him with 25. Redshirt senior Mason Lenhart was tied for second with 10 birdies and Gingerich hit UC's only eagle of the day.
"I'm really pleased with the way our guys competed all day," head coach Doug Martin said. "Thirty-six hole days are very long and this is our first one walking since the fall. The conditions were very difficult today, but we did a great job executing for the most part. Tomorrow we must come out and have the same competitive spirit. If we are able to do that, we will find success."
Georgia Southern currently sits in first place with a team-score of 560 (-16) in the 15-team invitational.
