CINCINNATI -- Hat tricks by Kylie Nause and Ava Goeller were not enough for the Cincinnati lacrosse team Wednesday, dropping a 16-9 decision to visiting Louisville in Nippert Stadium.

"I think we came out with a real competitive spirit and a solid game plan," head coach Gina Thomas said. "I'm happy about that, and Louisville is a great team that capitalized on our mistakes. Too many to end the second quarter put us in a position was too much for us. Louisville has a good draw unit, and Dani Mlkvy did a good job at putting the ball where we needed it. We just have to find a way to get it into the back of the net."

The Bearcats came out aggressive in their first home game since Feb. 20, taking a 2-0 lead in the first 4:10 as Nause and Alyssa Adams found the back of the net. The Cardinals responded with four-straight before UC tied it up at 11:19 and 11:05 in the second, both by way of Ava Goeller.

The explosive second quarter continued, just in Louisville's favor, as the Cardinals led 11-7 at the break, including a goal with nine seconds left.

Louisville ultimately out-shot the Bearcats 30-27 as well, but UC's 16-13 edge in draw controls marked its third-straight doing so.

Nause now has 31 goals on the year, extending her season-long hat-trick streak to eight, which ties for fifth in school history with Adams' 2019 campaign. Her 110 goals rank third. Goeller's was her fifth, with 22 goals as well.

The Bearcats will have a bit of time to regroup, returning to action March 18 at home against Central Michigan.
