TicketsCINCINNATI – The Oliver Nikoloff Invitational started today with throwing events taking place at Coy Field. Sophomore Hannah Jackson and Senior Sam Meece brought home the Bearcats' top finishes with two silvers in the hammer throw, Jackson's coming as the top collegiate finisher in the event.
PERFORMANCES OF NOTE
Women's Hammer Throw:
Jackson was the No. 1 collegiate finisher with her throw of 54.14m. She was followed by Senior Jane Sensibaugh in third with 53.07. Bearcats track and field alum and former NCAA Champion Annette Echikunwoke took first place in the event with her throw of 71.59m.
Men's Hammer Throw:
Meece led the Bearcats in the hammer throw, taking second place with a throw of 57.88m. Senior Danny Jones was close behind in third place, throwing 54.35m. Sophomore Korbin Spencer threw 46.81m to record a new personal best.
Women's Javelin:
Sophomore Juliet McGregor and Senior Sydney Spears had a strong opening meet in the javelin throw, placing third and fourth, respectively. McGregor started the season with a throw of 33.15m and Spears threw 29.92m.
NEXT UP
The remaining throwing events and all running and jumping events will take place tomorrow at Gettler Stadium. The meet will start at 10 a.m. with the men's discus throw. A senior recognition will take place at 11:15 a.m. before the running events start at 12 p.m.
Admission to Gettler Stadium is free and parking in Calhoun Garage is $5 for spectators.
