FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Ty Gingerich carded a 3-under 68 to tie for sixth and lead the Cincinnati men's golf team after its first round of the Mason Rudolph Championship.
"We played extremely well today," head coach Doug Martin said. "We played with tremendous patience the entire round. These guys continue to stay in the present and respect every shot. Tomorrow will be a new challenge for this group."
Cincinnati's 278 was a season-low for any first round, as well as its second-lowest for the whole season.
Gingerich's six birdies paced the team, while Sam Jean added five to tie for 11th with a 69. The 68 was one stroke off a career-low for Gingerich, which was a 67 in the fall opener, and was his third sub-70 round. It was Jean's eighth, coming after a 69 to close the Schenkel Invitational on March 20.
Clay Amlung, the team's top performer at the Schenkel, carded a 70 to tie for 20th. Mason Lenhart had an even-71 to follow at 30th, with Joey McCarthy next at 73.
