CINCINNATI – Former Cincinnati men's basketball head coach Bob Huggins was announced on Saturday as a member of the 2022 Class for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Huggins, UC's head coach from 1989-05, will become the third Bearcats legend immortalized in the Hall of Fame, joining Oscar Robertson (1958-60) and Jack Twyman (1952-55) who were enshrined in 1980 and 1983, respectively.
Huggins led the Bearcats to 14 NCAA Tournaments, beginning with the 1992 Final Four, plus NIT bids in each of his first two years.
The Bearcats' all-time leader in wins (399), Huggins led UC to eight league tournament titles and 10 regular-season conference championships during his tenure.
The 1999-00 squad was ranked No. 1 nationally for 12 weeks and featured the first and sixth overall NBA draft picks in Kenyon Martin and DerMarr Johnson. Nine players in all earned Associated Press All-America honors under Huggins.
Huggins, who just finished his 15th year as the West Virginia head coach, his alma mater, remains active within the Cincinnati community. His 916 career wins rank fourth all-time in men's college basketball history.
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2022 Enshrinement Ceremony will take place in Springfield, Mass., on Sept. 9-10, 2022.
