TicketsIOWA CITY, Iowa -- Sam Jean produced a 2-under 70, Cincinnati's lowest of the tournament, to tie for sixth as the Bearcats concluded the Hawkeye Invitational on Sunday.
Jean had top-10 showings in the first two fall tournaments as well and finished sixth three events ago at the Colleton River Collegiate. He had 12 birdies on the week, including four each round. The Bearcats' 293 marked its lowest round in the last round for the fourth time this year.
"It was a very tough week for this group," head coach Doug Martin said. "We battled hard today and were in position for our low round with three holes remaining. Unfortunately, we finished poorly. We must regroup quickly and get ready for our conference championship next weekend."
Joey McCarthy managed a 1-over 73 for the second-straight round, tying for 27th. It was his highest finish since the Badger Invitational, which was the team's second of the fall. Clay Amlung also completed a perfect improvement with a 75 in his final round. Ty Gingerich and Mason Lenhart also carded 75s for their best of the tournament, finishing 50th and 62nd, respectively.
Cincinnati now turns its focus to the AAC Championships, Friday-Sunday in Brooksville, Fla.
