TicketsIOWA CITY, Iowa -- Sam Jean carded an even-par 144 to tie for eighth and pace the Cincinnati men's golf team after Saturday's two rounds of the Hawkeye Invitational.
The Bearcats had a 298 in each round, fighting through the cold. Joey McCarthy was second on the squad with a 75 and 73 to tie for 28th, while Ty Gingerich, Mason Lenhart and Clay Amlung followed in order. Amlung did cut six strokes off his first round, however.
"Other than Sam and Joey, we didn't do a good job handling difficult conditions," head coach Doug Martin said. "We didn't chip and putt well enough today to keep the rounds going. We made so many bogies as a result of 3-putting or missing basic up-and-downs. The weather is going to be worse tomorrow, and we must be ready for battle."
The Bearcats, who have had their best round at the end in three tournaments this season, will look to find similar success Sunday.
