CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati junior attacker Grace Wehland earned her first AAC distinction as the league's Attacker of the Week, while sophomore midfielder Ava Goeller earned a spot on the Honor Roll.
Wehland's team-high five goals marked her first hat trick, coming at the perfect time in a 17-11 win at Old Dominion. She also accomplished the feat on five shots, becoming just the second AAC athlete to accomplish that feat. The Bel Air, Md., native now has a 51.4 shot percentage on the year that is second only on the team to Kylie Nause, who leads the league with 3.8 goals per game. Two of Wehland's scores came in the game-breaking 7-0 run of the third quarter and early fourth. Wehland, who had no points her first two years over nine combined games, now has 18 goals with six assists, which includes three points each against top-10 Florida and Michigan. The five goals against ODU were one off the Bearcats' individual season-high.
Goeller, also of Bel Air High School, earned her fourth league accolade. She tallied her ninth hat trick in the road win at Old Dominion, putting her sixth in single-season school history. Six of her eight shots were also on goal, and two of her goals were in that 7-0 run early in the second half. Her 41 goals are one more than her 2021 Big South Freshman of the Year campaign at Radford, while her 14 assists are second on the team and nine more than she had last year. She is second on the team in goals, assists, draw controls and ground balls.
Cincinnati is home Saturday for the final time, hosting East Carolina at 12 p.m. Seniors Anna Platou and Kylie Nause will be honored pregame, while there is a free K-8 postgame clinic as well. Registration is open till Wednesday here.
