CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to the Indiana Hoosiers, 11-4, Wednesday night at UC Baseball Stadium.

Freshman pitcher Carter Earls (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Cincinnati (16-18, 6-3). Redshirt sophomore pitcher Ben Vore was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.1 shutout innings while only allowing one hit.

Redshirt sophomore infielder Ryan Nicholson led the way offensively for the Bearcats, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Redshirt junior outfielder Griffin Merritt also went deep, going 1-for-5 with a home run and an RBI. Sophomore outfielder Cole Harting chipped in as well, going 1-for-4 for Cincinnati with a triple and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bearcats got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Merritt put Cincinnati up early with a two-out solo home run off freshman Grant Holderfield.

The Bearcats lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the eighth, trailing 8-1. Cincinnati scored once on an RBI single off the bat of redshirt senior infielder Wyatt Stapp, which brought the score to 8-2 in favor of the Hoosiers.

Indiana expanded their lead to 11-2 before the Cincinnati offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 11-4 in the ninth. The Bearcats added two to their tally on Nicholson's two-run homer to center. The Bearcats were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
