CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati lacrosse team had a 4-0, first-quarter lead, but East Carolina fought back for a 15-9 decision on a hot Saturday afternoon at Nippert Stadium.

Seniors Anna Platou and Kylie Nause were honored pregame, and Platou accounted for a goal and assist (the latter to Nause) over a 34-second span that gave UC a 2-0 lead at 9:09. The Bearcats' blanking in the opening period was their first of the AAC campaign. ECU finally got on the board at the 6:30 mark of the second quarter to kickstart its run that would lead to a 5-4 halftime edge.

The Bearcats at one point held a 20-7 shots advantage.

"I don't think anything changed (adjustment-wise)," head coach Gina Thomas said. "We started shooting poorly, and while we out-shot them, we just weren't scoring. That's where the tide turned. They started controlling the draw a little bit to put us on our heels, and our shooters didn't finish. If we play a full game, it's ours, but we got a little too comfortable up 4-0."

ECU stretched its lead to 10-6 with two goals early in the fourth, but an Ava Goeller and third Nause goal over a 24-second span made it 10-8 with 11 minutes left. The Pirates and Alyssa Adams traded goals by the nine-minute mark, but ECU scored four more times over the next five minutes to prevail.

Nause extended her school single-season hat-trick record to 14, giving her 60 goals on the season as well. She is one away from matching Monica Borzillo (2019) for that one as well.

Platou's early goal and assist were the 10th and fourth of her season, respectively. Tori Accardo's four ground balls also led the defense and was one off a career-high. Grace Wehland also scored twice, and Kylie Gioia added another.

UC closes its regular-season Saturday at Vanderbilt (1 p.m. ET).
