BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- Joey McCarthy carded a 69 to jump up to 12th place, keying an eight-stroke improvement for the Cincinnati men's golf team after its second round of the AAC Championships.
"Today was much better," head coach Doug Martin said. "We had a chance to really post a low one today but just couldn't take advantage of the opportunities we presented ourselves. I'm excited for tomorrow and the challenges it will bring."
The team's 4-under 284 was the third-lowest in the field. Ty Gingerich, who had a 69 on Friday, leads the Bearcats in 10th and carded an eagle on the par-five, 563-yard No. 16 hole. Sam Jean also remained consistent with an even-par 72 to tie for 17th. Clay Amlung and Mason Lenhart both knocked six strokes off their scores as well.
The eight-stroke betterment was UC's best since the Colleton River Collegiate (March 7-8), where a 17-stroke jump led to a school-record 270 in the finale. McCarthy's 69 was also his third of the year in the 60s, helped by five birdies.
