CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to the South Florida Bulls on Sunday at UC Baseball Stadium. The Bulls won this one 19-5 and took the series.
Graduate pitcher Tristan Weaver (4-4) started and took the loss on the mound for Cincinnati (17-21, 7-5).
Redshirt sophomore catcher Joe Powell led the way offensively for the Bearcats, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Redshirt junior outfielder Griffin Merritt compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Redshirt junior outfielder Paul Komistek also chipped in, going 1-for-4 for Cincinnati with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Bearcats first put runs on the board in the third inning. An RBI triple from Powell highlighted a two-run inning for Cincinnati.
The Bulls expanded their lead to 13-2 before the Bearcats offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the sixth. Merritt's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Cincinnati scored twice, which tightened the Bulls lead to 13-4.
Cincinnati held the Bulls off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 13-5 in the eighth. The Bearcats were unable to get any closer, as South Florida added six runs to their tally on the way to a 19-5 final.
